Battery plates

Goonvean Fibres produces a complete range of precision cut synthetic fibres to reinforce the lead oxide active material of pasted plates. These plates are used in the manufacture of lead acid batteries.

Our range offers a number of benefits. Fibres are all produced in manufacturer-approved polymer types, including polyester, polypropylene,
modacrylic and acrylic. All cut lengths are available, but the most widely used lengths are 1.5mm (1/16”) 3mm (1/8”) and 6mm (1/4”).

We supply grades suitable for all types of plate grid construction, including cast grids, continuous cast grids and expanded metal grids. We also supply grades suitable for belt-pasting machines and orifice-pasting machines to produce automotive, motive power, VRLA and all other lead-acid battery types.

We offer accurate pre-weighed amounts of fibre (in small bags, some of which are degradable in the paste mix) to suit any manufacturer’s battery paste formulation. Accurately controlled moisture contents are also available to suit each manufacturer’s battery paste formulation and satisfy any environmental concerns.

Quality is a watchword at Goonvean Fibres. That is why our manufacturing processes are approved to both ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO/TS 16949:2002 standards. Such standards have enabled us to build an impressive customer profile including all major international Lead Acid Battery Manufacturers.

Some of the grades in current usage include Primafloc (polyester), Armafloc (Polypropylene) and Acrylafloc (-acrylic fibres). We can also supply a range of other precision cut fibres or random fibre flocks for alternative battery technologies such as NiCd or NiMH.

As a further service to our customers, our Chicago based warehouse holds substantial stocks in the USA to allow JIT deliveries if required.
