Goonvean Fibres produces an extensive range of specialised flocks and precision cut fibres which act as reinforcing fillers and structure forming agents in a wide range of paint, coating, sealant and mastic formulations.
Polyacrylonitrile flocks are used extensively in intumescent paints and coatings, where fibres char rather than melt. This reinforces the film under fire conditions. Polyacrylonitrile and nylon fibres are also often used to reinforce water-based acrylic roof coatings.
The slump and sag resistance of thick coating films is improved by polyethylene flocks, especially on vertical surfaces. Polyethylene and cellulose flocks also add structure to paint and coating films to give better coverage on corners and sharp angles, as well as improving the viscosity of solvent-based bitumen coatings.
Polypropylene and other fibres serve to reinforce cementitious-based repair coatings, self-levelling floor and adhesive products. Higher concentrations of very short fibres help to bridge and fill cracks in specialised fillers, coatings and spackles. Other precision cut fibres improve the film strength in exterior coatings.
Some of the grades in current usage include polyacrylonitrile flock, PAN 60 (intumescents), polyethylene flocks, Pet 10-Pet 60, polyacrylonitrile, nylon and polyester fibres of various cut lengths.
