At Goonvean Fibres we manufacture a range of precision cut reinforcement and pore forming fibres for the manufacture of monolithic refractory products. These products are also used to reinforce the ceramic shell in the investment casting process.
Our range includes cut fibres used in all major manufacturer-approved polymers, such as polypropylene, polyester and nylon. All fibres are added to cementitious refractories to minimise shrinkage on drying, and to improve green strength and permeability by producing permeable channels in the castable structure. Continual improvements in the permeability of refractories aids drying and helps to prevent explosive spalling.
All cut lengths are available to meet your specific requirements. The most widely used are 3mm, 6mm and 12mm lengths. Polypropylene monofilament grades are available in different fibre diameters, as well as fibrillated polypropylene fibre grades.
Special polymer fibres are also used to reinforce the refractory shell. In some cases these fibres are also used to reinforce the soluble wax used in the production of precision cast metal parts manufactured by the investment (lost wax) casting process.
Depending on your needs, accurate pre-weighed amounts of fibre are also available in small bags, some of which are water-soluble.
Some of the grades in current usage are polypropylene fibres PP 6, PPHF 3 and polyester fibres PE 3.
