Texturising powders

At Goonvean Fibres we offer a range of micronised powders. Characterised by their controlled particle sizes, they are specifically designed for paint and surface coating to ensure a uniform texture on the finished product.

Powders are popular for the range of properties they can impart to paint and coatings, including texture, non-glare, non-slip and gloss control. They can be used in a wide variety of coating systems such as nitro-cellulose, acryclic, alkyd and water-borne resins, and are also commonly used to provide texture for office furniture, business equipment and mouldings, where substrates can include metal, wood or plastic. Powders are available in a variety of particle sizes in order to achieve more pronounced effects such as anti-slip or non-blocking of paint films.

Powder can also be easily dispersed into paint or coating systems with standard paint processing equipment, with the low specific gravity of the powders ensuring that particles migrate to the coating’s surface. Some of the powders can also be used in clear finishes because their refractive index is similar to the refractive index of many coating films.

Some of the grades in current usage include polypropylene powders HM 20/70G and HM 20/35 and polyethylene powders HMPE 101A, 301A, 601A and 1001A.
