Refractory, Construction and Building, Goonvean Fibres has a range of products for reinforcing a variety of applications

Building Products

Materials for construction

Goonvean Fibres produces short cut polyester, polypropylene, steel and nylon fibres that are used in a range of concrete and insulation applications primarily to minimise shrinkage on drying but also to improve green strength and permeability.

Concrete

Crack reduction

ConcreteFibres are added to cementitious refractories to minimise shrinkage on drying, and to improve green strength and permeability by producing permeable channels in the castable structure. Continual improvements in the permeability of refractories aids drying and helps to prevent explosive spalling.

Goonvean Fibres can offer precision cut fibres (in continuous filament form) using rotary and guillotine cutters. Capable of cutting from 0.25mm up to 50mm. For further information please contact enquiry@goonveanfibres.co.uk

Capable of milling various materials from 250 micron up to 12,000 micron. If you have a requirement for commissioned milling please contact enquiry@goonveanfibres.co.uk

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications including packaging, textiles and automotive components. It is rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids making it an ideal material for use in Lead Acid Batteries and concrete.

Flooring

Carpets & Mats

FlooringGoonvean Fibres offers a range of nylon cut lengths for use in carpet manufacture, these short cut fibres have a good dye affinity and can be offered in a range of colours. We are also able to offer a No-Shock bicomponent product from Ascend Performance Materials. A nylon 6.6 and carbon fibre bicomponent, this antistatic material is an inherent part of the fibre and not a treatment or post-application therefore it lasts as long as the fibre or fabric. It has found applications in anti - static floor coverings.

Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers known as polyamides. Nylon is one of the most commonly used polymers and has found applications in everything from tooth brushes to textile manufacture. The most common grades used in industrial reinforcement are Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6

Insulation

Insulation

InsulationGoonvean Fibres offers a variety of precision or short cut fibres and ground (flocks) for use in the manufacture of insulation products. Nylon, polypropylene and polyester can be used in the fabrication of plasterboard. Natural flocks such as wool and hemp are used for wall, loft and underfloor insulation.

The 1.7 dtex short cut fibre is the preferred option when the end use requires a finer diameter filament e.g. pharmaceutical and food packaging, however, all polyester grades can be used in harsher environments such as lead acid batteries due to the resistance to sulphuric acid.

Viscose rayon is most commonly used in the production of standard paper and speciality papers. As the material is 100% biodegradable it is also globally accepted for use in environmentally friendly applications. It has been used in oil well drilling operations to replace non-biodegradable synthetic fibres.

Precision cut Polyester fibre is a very strong and stable manmade fibre that is widely used in many industries. Polyester is resistant to stretching and shrinking and perhaps more importantly for industrial applications it is resistant to abrasion and acid degradation. Polyester has a relatively high specific gravity, leading to it dispersing well in water and a relatively high melting point making it a good all round choice for a variety of applications. The short cut 3.3 decitex grade is widely used in the manufacture of lead oxide paste with cut lengths 1.6mm and 3mm being most common.

Wool is a natural fibre that has been used in textile manufacure for thousands of years. It has good dye affinity and is therefore widely used in the manufacture of high quality carpets. It is commonly used in insulation and felting applications and ground wool can be chemically treated to release natural Keratin for use in the manufacture of cosmetics and personal care.
